Puppet Slams
In 2011 Black Hole initiated the first in its ongoing series of Puppet Slams. A slam provides merging and experienced puppeteers with an opportunity to lift their profile, build networks and audiences, and try out new ideas. A typical evening consists of 8-10 short performances all centred on a given theme. The works may be improvised, taken from an established piece, or presented as a fragment of something new. The artists might be local, international, or from interstate. The atmosphere is relaxed and engaging, beverages, finger food and live music are provided (often free), ticket prices are low, and usually performances take place in non-theatre spaces such as halls or cafes. Artists are encouraged to take risks. Audiences are invited to expect something surprising and new. To date, all 10 slams have sold out! Our e-news will keep you informed about the next!
