Celebrating our 10th Puppet Slam as part of The Melbourne Festival of Puppetry!

You may have been wondering about the recent changes to the date and location of our 10th Puppet Slam. We’ve kept a tight lip about the exciting news but we can now reveal that we have been working hard behind the scenes, in partnership with La Mama and Lemony S Puppet Theatre to present to you a night of political puppetry as part of The Melbourne Festival of Puppetry 2017.

The world is in turmoil. Around the globe, we face immense political decisions as societies tear themselves apart seeking solutions to their problems. In recent times, the refugee crisis has worsened, Australia has a new government (with the same faces), the US have chosen Trump as their next president, Britain has a new prime minister, Brazil’s latest President is accused of taking bribes from the former impeached President, France’s Marine Le Pen will be rallying her far right forces ahead of the 2017 elections, the Brexit fallout will continue to divide the United Kingdom, and climate change will have wrought more devastation. How do these things affect you? How do we respond to any of the above – or to the hundreds of things not on the list?

Politics meets puppetry in a series of short, edgy performances that stab daggers of light into this crazy world.  Some comic, some very dark, each of these works is a premiere, each packs a punch.  They spring from Melbourne’s finest artists and will be accompanied by live music.

The lineup includes Rod Primrose, Rachel Joy, Bao Ghislain, Ben Anderson, Jhess Knight, Philip Millar, Nadine Dimitrievitch and Lulu Lala.
