Sky Could Be Blue
You’re hungry and love Vietnamese food, right? Come in, take a seat, and put on your headset!
Sky Could Be Blue is an immersive, multi-sensory experience that transports audiences into the world of the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian diaspora in Australia. Set in a real Vietnamese restaurant, the show blurs the boundary between diner and performer. Both the audience and the cast—playing diners, waiters, passersby, and restaurant staff—wear headphones, with the cast mic’d up, creating a layered, intimate soundscape.
As meals unfold, so do stories—tales of dating struggles, generational tensions, hidden political divides, and the hopes and fears of those navigating life between cultures. These stories span generations, weaving together themes of family, identity, isolation, and belonging. They are tender, funny, abstract, and deeply personal. Audiences can choose to interact or simply enjoy the food.
More than just a show, The Sky Could Be Blue is an invitation to listen, reflect, and engage. It offers a rare opportunity for both Asian and Western audiences to encounter new perspectives, making it a groundbreaking addition to the arts scene. This is more than a performance or a meal—it’s a conversation that transcends borders.
