Presented by Black Hole Theatre in association with SummerSalt Outdoor Arts Festival
Over two weekends in January and February 2015, our latest and greatest Puppet Slam Where the Wild Things Sing – An Urban Puppet Safari took to the streets of Southbank.
Following on from the success of ARIA! in November 2013, Where the Wild Things Sing again brought opera and puppetry together thanks to the talents of Oliver Mann, Frederica Cunningham and Belinda Dalton, with musical accompaniment by Dave Evans and Jenny Thomas.
Led by raconteur Bernard Caleo, audiences were guided to intimate performances nestled in laneways, hidden around corners, and creeping up from behind. Short performances by puppeteers Megan Cameron, Lynne Kent, Rod Primrose, Jhess Knight, the indirect Object and Barking Spider Visual Theatre created sumptuous and surreal visuals where ants crawled up walls, jellyfish danced in the air and shadowy worlds were illuminated underwater.
Supported by the City of Melbourne 2015 Arts Grants Program.
Puppet Slams are part of Fermenting Change, proudly supported by the Australia Council.
